There are now a number of mobile providers that are offering free laptops with their mobile broadband packages. These providers are the earlier entrants to the mobile broadband market and are attempting to capitalise on their position by gaining market share in this area. Therefore you can take advantage of these offers while they are still around, they may be removed from new provision shortly, although on the other hand they could be around for some time to come.
The downsides of these free laptop offers is that you are generally tied into an 18 month contract which means the total cost of your broadband service for that period can be anywhere from £330 up to around £630 on some mobile broadband tariffs. Also you would be expected to pay around £300 for a laptop anyway and you would end up paying for this up front or with an interest charge if paying over a long period.
Overall there are some good deals about and if you are looking for a new laptop then you can save yourself some money by getting it free with your broadband. If you are flexible about your broadband requirements and can therefore have fixed line broadband then AOL's wireless plus package is best for you and for the cost of the laptop you are getting broadband for 18 months thrown in. Note that the AOL Broadband Wireless Plus package is only at the offer price in specific areas, and if you are not in that area the broadband cost may be slightly higher. If you want broadband on the move then any offer from the Carphone Warehouse would suffice and this would also mean that you don't need to pay for line rental.
The broadband packages below are the ones that come with free laptops and you can compare these and choose the best package for you.
